Total time spent this week - 17 Hours and 30 Minutes.
Overview:
The last two days have been a push to get as much extra done as possible. I stayed up through the night to add what I could in different areas and make sure to gather enough marks in other zones in the case of suffering for the lack of content in the scene.
Wednesday / August 22nd : I worked through the day planning out what was the most important next thing on my list for the breakdown sheets. I planned out the different sheets that I wanted to have, and then depending upon the contents I would methodically work through them. I started with two assets to display as breakdown sheets, I opted to continue texturing the Security Doorway and Computer Panel asset as I was most proud of the detail from baking and they were the larger assets. In anticipation to discuss the narrative and also show the computer panel as a whole, I moved on to texturing two variations of screens. This allowed me to add some life to the scene as well as detail which was in plain sight. Eventually after tweaking things, I started trying to pack images and descriptions into one of the slides. I decided to form the background and layout of the cards first so to understand what kind of things I would want on the cards. This was then followed by scanning for what pieces I already had access too. I didn't want to get caught in a situation where I worked and focused on getting so many thing done that I forgot the portion of the hand-in which requires me to summarise all the pieces together onto pages. This approach worked for most of the night, creating cards, finding something was missing or that taking the time out to take some extra images would benefit the slides.
Thursday / August 23rd :
As the night drew on, I became naturally, more and more unfocused and frustrated. But through the these periods, I managed to accomplish a lot on the front of the Breakdown cards. The breakdown cards involved a piece of most areas of the scene. Some images of what was available, some close ups, asset breakdowns, narrative of the scene, modularity use, asset group shots, how I approached texturing etc. Although the scene was far from finished, I attempted to use what I had to explain the process I had used, and planned to continue to use, to whoever was viewing the piece. The last few hours before hand-in consisted of me checking over my blog entries, the reflective report, the scene to see what could be accomplished with the hours remaining, seeing if I could get any better angles of the assets that were more accomplished and such.
Project Overview:
As mentioned in my report, I'm very disappointed with the overall state of the piece that I have created. But I am pleased with the models, some of the textures, the theme, narrative, bakes and other parts. I'm proud of individual pieces that I have created that unfortunately don't shine as well without the other planned portions. Time management and probably focus on how to spend my working hours is the fault in this project. With more time, I believe that I could make this scene how I envision it to be, as most of the stress or panic on my part was simply because of the deadline, rather than not feeling as though I could accomplish it.
The project itself, has taught me a great deal about where I need to improve. I have known for a while that Time management in projects is a consistent issue, but it was hard to pinpoint the exact source of the issue. This project has better helped me to understand what new steps I need to take, to tackle my biggest issue.
I do plan to continue this project in my own spare time to continue striving for a position in industry, and although I might suffer mark wise for this project, I feel as though this kind of hurdle was something that I'm in need of to redirect my efforts.
